LOVE IN ACTION

Madre

Medial

Listening

Love in action

Nourishing the deep layers

Tending to the wild nature

Loving truly

Loving deeply

Open to the rhythm

Sensing into the circle

Embracing the up, the down, the sideways

Witnessing the unfurling

Unconditional love in the wild circle

When I was in my mid-thirties Clarissa Pinkola Estés’s book, Women Who Run With the Wolves, Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype arrived at a pivotal moment in my life – this book and subsequent writings by this wise and talented Jungian Analyst have nurtured my creative soul for many years. Recently, while sitting in a circle of talented women, the topic and associated societal norms of motherhood came up. There were women in the group who were not “mothers” in the traditional sense and an undercurrent of mildly irritated commentary was swirling around me. Sensing the change in energy, I spoke into the circle … “there are many ways to be a mother – Clarissa Pinkola Estés speaks about how as women, we are all mothers. There are women, who as soon as you meet them, something about their presence draws you in, and you intuitively name them…”Madre”. As women we can be mothers to each other, to animals, to the earth.”
I embrace an expanded view of the roles associated with the title of mother. I am blessed to be a “mother” in the traditional sense to a wonderful son and I also have the gift of being a “Madre” to a beautiful young woman.

Clarissa Pinkola Estés, illuminates, “There are women, who, as soon as you see them, something in you leaps and you say “mama”. You take one look and think, “I am her progeny, I am her child, and she is my mother…” These wild mothers guide you, burst with pride over your accomplishments… their purpose is to help you, to care for your art, and to reattach you to the wildish instincts, and to elicit your original best.”

Is there a Madre in your life?
